The Center for Design and Manufacturing Excellence (CDME) recently announced the second-round cycle of its DoD Supply Base Resilience and Diversification (SBRD) Program. The program, developed alongside the U.S. Department of Defense Office of Economic Adjustment, was designed to provide product development support for Ohio small businesses, startups, and inventors.

Businesses meeting the criteria established can submit solutions to receive funded technical assistance consistent with prototyping or product development.

Projects are undertaken in three different rounds spanning 18 months, with approximately seven technologies chosen in each round to transition into a prototype, or minimally viable product (MVP). CDME pools new ideas, narrows down the field of candidates, and works with GDI Partners to host technology pitch days for selected companies to present their solution and articulate how their idea supports the defense mission.

Second-round submissions are due Monday, November 16, 2020, by 5 p.m.

In the first round, Ohio State interacted with 35 small businesses presenting 44 new technologies. Seven technology solutions were down-selected, and prototype development is underway. Following the down-selection, the selected companies were presented to U.S. Combatant Commands Science and Technology Scouts at the August 2020 TRIAD event. One of the seven technologies, developed by NODIS, was picked by the scouts to be fast-tracked for deployment to our warfighters. View our status report with technologies selected in round one of the SBRD Program

Your technology could be next.

If chosen in the second round, you, too, will walk away with a prototype developed by CDME engineers and an opportunity to pitch your technology to the DoD.

Selected companies will also be invited to a Technology Requirements & Innovation Awareness Day (TRIAD). The TRIAD Program, administered by GDI Partners, provides education, coaching, and opportunity identification to companies looking to connect with the U.S. Department of Defense. Selected companies will have the chance to pitch their innovation directly to defense technology scouts.
