Business Insight: The Future of Manufacturing

Charles Young, Director of Business Development, Ohio State University, College of Engineering – Center for Design and Manufacturing Excellence (CDME)

New and affordable technologies are evolving rapidly to improve manufacturing. Enhancements in materials, automation, software, artificial intelligence, data & analytics, and 3D printing are just some of the advanced manufacturing technologies which are now being widely implemented, yet still emerging.  At the same time, successful implementation still depends on the capability of processes, tools and people. This presentation will initially take a broad look at some of the trends that are changing manufacturing. It will then take a deeper dive into one of the technologies, additive manufacturing, to illustrate the decisions management must make when determining the company’s readiness to move to something new.
