Senior Research Associate (Electronics and Controls)

The Senior Research Associate develops and leads electronics and controls research and development efforts for the Center for Design and Manufacturing Excellence (CDME); coordinates and conducts various sponsored research and industry projects; collaborates with research and industry partners to ensure projects are completed in accordance with project milestones, deliverable requirements and within the cost and schedule agreed upon during project scoping; works with OSU faculty and other CDME staff to coordinate multidisciplinary fundamental and applied research; utilizes expertise and leadership in determining technical solutions for complex problems; serves as a liaison with sponsoring agencies and other research and educational institutes; serves as collaborator on research grants and industry-funded contracts appropriate to CDME; prepares technical reports for submission to sponsoring agencies; participates in preparation of research and industry proposals; writes journal and conference articles; presents research progress to sponsors and presents research results at conferences and symposia; establishes priorities and supervises student employees (e.g. provides developmental opportunities, coaches to foster development, evaluates performance); supports professional development and student program activities of CDME in area of expertise; responsible for bringing in sufficient funding to support position and any student employee direct reports; performs special projects and other duties as assigned.

Additional Information: This position will require access to export controlled data and work in an export controlled facility.  Eligibility for this position is restricted to “U.S. persons” as defined in U.S. export control regulations.  “U.S. persons” include: (1) U.S. citizens or nationals; (2) permanent residents; (3) asylees or refugees; or (4) individuals otherwise described as “protected individuals” pursuant to Title 8 U.S. Code Section 1324b(a)(3)(b). 

Experience

Required
Ph.D. in electronics, electrical, or computer engineering, or an equivalent combination of education and experience; experience and/or training in electrical/circuits design, machine code programming and closed loop controls; extensive experience in a professional research environment with experience proposal writing and customer engagement; considerable experience in a R & D setting (i.e., planning and conducting R & D projects/programs in terms of technical and managerial functions)

Desired
Experience in a progressively responsible supervisory capacity over direct reports or processes is highly desired.

Post Doctoral Scholar

Conducts research and development efforts as a Post Doctoral Scholar at the Center for Design and Manufacturing Excellence focused in the area of artificial intelligence manufacturing; documents information resulting from these studies and reports to sponsors; prepares research results and reports, conference and journal papers, and technical presentations; assists in mentoring student employees; attends research group and unit meetings;  

Experience

Required
Ph.D. in Integrated Systems Engineering, Materials Science and Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering or related Engineering field.

Desired
Familiarity with artificial intelligence manufacturing principles; excellent writing and communication skills.
