Interns Tour the Clyde Whirlpool Factory

Posted:

A group of five interns - the first of three groups - spent the day touring Whirlpool's washer factory in Clyde, Ohio. It was a fantastic opportunity for students to witness large scale manufacturing in an industrial facility. Tour guides, Daniel Fondriest P.E. and Michael Z Cukier, gave the group a comprehensive look at all operations which occurred at the facility. The massive factory is known for utilizing more stainless steel than any other factory in the country - including the automotive industry. Yet the facility is almost entirely sustainable. The Clyde factory has goals of becoming 100 percent sustainable by 2020. The factory employs 4,000 people - many of which are residents of Clyde. Additionally, Whirlpool has been striving to become more automated by installing robotic arms which allow assembly lines to become more dynamic and efficient. More stories and photos are to follow the next wave of interns which get to tour the facility.
