Buck, Vimal

Biography

Vimal Buck is a senior researcher at The Ohio State University’s Center for Design and Manufacturing Excellence (CDME). Before joining CDME in February of 2018, he spent two years at L3 Communications working in software-defined radio and 12 years at Battelle in the company’s new medical devices department.

Vimal attended The Ohio State University, where he earned his bachelor’s degree in electrical and computer engineering, graduating Magna Cum Laude with a focus in computer engineering. He received his master’s degree in electrical engineering from The University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

At CDME, Vimal focuses on embedded programming, signal processing, new product development, medical device development, and cyber-security. He has worked on various projects – one of the most notable being the soybean spectroscopy sensor project.

“It is truly satisfying to play a part in commercializing university research through a diverse array of projects. One of the things I am most proud of is seeing the growth and development of our undergraduate research assistants as they work on these innovative projects.”

In his free time, Vimal volunteers with Ohio State’s Electrical and Computer Engineering Alumni Society, where he serves as the organization’s treasurer. He currently resides in Upper Arlington, Ohio.
